Hair Care Basics

You’ve heard it before; your hair is your crowning glory. While we don’t like to put too much pressure on one physical feature, hair is definitely one of those things that can affect our self-esteem. Case in point: not wanting to leave the house due to a bad hair day, or feeling like we can take on the world, thanks to a good hair day.

Taking care of your hair may seem like an easy task, but there are some small changes that will make a big difference in your results. Using the right products and techniques will ensure that every day is a good hair day for you. We’ve put together some of our favorite hair care tips below, all you have to do is get ready to conquer the world.

Shampoo:
Shampoo probably seems like the easiest step in your haircare routine. ‘Lather, rinse, repeat’ is a phrase we’ve heard ever since we were little children. However, there is a little more to it. Most hair professionals recommend washing your hair two to three times a week, using lukewarm water and concentrating the shampoo on your roots and scalp, rather than the lengths. A gentle shampoo like Davines OI Shampoo will cleanse your scalp and hair without stripping them of their natural oils.

Conditioner:
Conditioner is essentially moisturizer for your hair. It’s essential to use conditioner after your shampoo to moisturize your hair and add shine, while also making it easier to comb and style. Always make sure to towel dry your hair before applying your conditioner as completely wet hair won’t absorb the conditioner. Too much conditioner applied on your roots can lead to limp, lifeless hair. After towel drying your hair, apply your conditioner starting at the ends of your hair and working your way up, avoiding your roots. Leave it on for a few minutes before you rinse. We recommend a moisturizing, but lightweight conditioner like SachaJuan Conditioner.

Mask:
Masks aren’t just important for your skin. Applying a weekly mask to your hair will deep treat it, repair damage, and make your hair more manageable. As with conditioner, make sure you towel dry your hair before applying your mask for maximum benefits. Apply a generous amount of the mask and gently comb it through your hair with a wide-toothed comb. You can also pop on a shower cap to trap the heat and help the mask penetrate your hair even more. When the mask is done, rinse it out well and go show off your locks! We like Rahua Omega 9 Hair Mask , an intense treatment that is rich in moisturizing and repairing Omega-9 oils.
