How to Switch Up Your Skincare for Summer – Mature Skin

As we mentioned in our last post, summer is 110% here, meaning the heat (and all of the skin concerns it brings with it) is also here. We previously discussed some tips to keep oily, acne-prone skin in check during the hotter months, but today we’re going to talk about summer skincare for drier, more mature skin. Dry skin already has its own issues, but the extra heat, sunlight, and humidity during the summer can cause additional problems. Here are some of our favorite tips and products to help stop the war between your skin and the summer.

1. Cleanse. You may find that your skin becomes slightly oilier during the summer. Keep excess oil at bay with a gentle cleanser that will cleanse without drying your skin out. We love Elemis Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Facial Wash, a non-irritating cleanser that will gently slough away dead skin cells, hydrate, and protect your skin from the environment.

2. Moisturize. The last thing you want to do is put extra layers on your skin when the weather hits the 40s. But if your skin is dry, you need to keep it hydrated to keep wrinkles at bay. Try using a light moisturizer like SkinMedica Ultra Sheer Moisturizer. This moisturizer provides a heavy dose of hydration, along with antioxidant protection. It also firms your skin so you look younger immediately!

3. Treat. Despite summer’s carefree attitude, your skin can get pretty stressed when it heats up. We like to use a soothing, hydrating mask like Reviderm Calming Hydro Mask at least once a week. This mask will rebalance and moisturize your skin, while soothing it and reducing any inflammation. The calming formula is also great for use after a trip to the beach.

4. Protect. Protecting your skin from the sun is one of the most important things you can do when it comes to anti-aging. A great, every day sunscreen will keep your skin looking young, but it’s even more important during the summer, as the extra bright sun can cause wrinkles, sun spots, and sagging skin. Exuviance Age Reverse Day Repair SPF 20 not only protects your skin from the sun, it also offers a triple antioxidant complex, a triple firming complex, and a light exfoliator to reduce sunspots while it protects your skin. It is a summer must-have for anyone with dry or mature skin.
