Well, there’s no fighting it, summer is officially here. And it brings with it some unbearable temperatures, high humidity, and lots and lots of sweat. While our winters can hardly be considered ‘cold’, the ten to fifteen point jump in temperatures can be a shock to your system (and your skin). With such drastic changes, you may find that your skin isn’t what it used to be. If your skin leans to the oilier side, or you are prone to breakouts and blackheads, you may find that everything gets worse during the summer. Fear not! We’re here with some of our favorite products and tips for keeping your skin clear, not matter how hot and muggy it gets out there.
1. Cleanse. Summer is definitely the time for some heavy-duty cleansing action. Between the layers of sunscreen (you do wear sunscreen every day, right?), makeup, sweat, and city pollution, your skin can find itself buried under layers of everyday stuff. Try a foaming cleanser like Dr. Dennis Gross All-In-One Cleansing Foam, which will deep cleanse and clear out pores without stripping your skin of its natural oils.
2. Moisturize. It may seem counterproductive to use moisturizer on already oily skin. But trust us; there is a method to the madness. Using a light, oil-free moisturizer will hydrate your skin and keep it happy enough that it won’t try to overcompensate by producing more oil. Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion not only keeps your skin hydrated, it also contains microsponges that will soak up any excess oil. Your skin will be plump, hydrated, and oil-free, a winning combination in the summer.
3. Treat. Keep your pores clear by using a deep-cleansing mask once a week (or even twice, if your skin’s feeling particularly clogged up). We like GlamGlow Powermud Dualcleanse Treatment, a detoxifying clay-based mask that sets as a mask, but turns into a hydrating cleansing oil when it comes into contact with water. You will be left with soft, clear, blemish-free skin.
4. Protect. We don’t have to tell you how important sunscreen is. We do know how difficult it is to find a sunscreen that won’t make you look like you just took a dip in some coconut oil. Murad Oil-free Sunblock SPF 30 is fantastic for oilier skins. It is made with pomegranate extract and vitamin E, both powerful antioxidants. The best thing about this sunscreen is that it is light and provides a matte finish, so you can discreetly protect your skin.
