An Easy Anti-Acne Routine

Ugh, acne. Whether you’re dealing with teenage acne or adult acne, pimples are never fun. And even worse, they always seem to flare up at the most inopportune times. It’s almost like your skin enjoys making you squirm. Got a big party this weekend, or an important presentation tomorrow? You can almost guarantee a breakout.

The good news is that a great anti-acne skincare routine can really improve matters. Sticking to a regular skincare routine that consists of acne-fighting products will help balance out your skin’s oil production, keep your pores clear and your keep you skin pimple-free. If you’re switching to an anti-acne routine, it’s important to stick to products that will keep your skin clean without over-drying or irritating it. Harsh, over-drying products will make your skin overcompensate and produce even more oil, while products that are too irritating can cause inflammation. Both of these are a big no-no when it comes to treating acne.

Before you start to feel overwhelmed, we’re here to help. We’ve put together a super-easy, simple, four-step anti-acne skincare routine that will keep your skin happy AND breakout free!

1. Cleanse. As we mentioned, you should choose a cleanser that will cleanse without over-drying. Exuviance Purifying Cleansing Gel is a soap-free, non-drying, foaming cleanser that will deep cleanse and purify your skin while maintaining its natural hydration levels. It also contains alpha hydroxy polyhydroxy acids to gently refine your skin and prepare it for the next steps.

2. Tone. Beef up your cleansing routine with a toner to unclog pores and rebalance your skin. Eucerin DermoPURIFYER Toner contains 2% lactic acid to clear out pores and reduce the growth of bacteria – without over-drying your skin.

3. Hydrate. Yes, acne prone skin still needs to be moisturized. Just make sure you choose something that will moisturize without clogging your pores (treating acne is a major balancing act). We like Dr. Hauschka Clarifying Day Oil, and while using an oil on already oily skin can seem a little counter-productive, hear us out. Natural oils work with the skin and absorb into it, rather than sitting on top or clogging pores. The natural oils in this mix are quick-absorbing and will hydrate, soothe, protect your skin from free radicals, and give you a serious glow.

4. Treat. We have all experienced a moment of dread after feeling a monster zit about to pop up. Well, it’s time to fight back! Neostrata Spot Treatment Gel contains a salicylic acid, pro-retinol, and a patented complex made of alpha hydroxy acids to improve cell turnover, minimize pores, and bust breakouts.
