Out Darn Spot! Skin Lightening 101

Whether we’re talking about a bronzed goddess like Beyonce, or a porcelain princess like Naomi Watts, we can all agree that clear, even toned skin is definitely one of the most sought after beauty traits. Unfortunately, not everyone has a team of beauty specialists at their beck and call. But not to worry, we’ve got your back. We’ve put together a list of our favorite skin lightening products and tips to have you sporting glowing, red-carpet-worthy skin in no time.

Since we’ve already tackled some of the causes of dark spots and hyperpigmentation, today’s post is all about effectively treating them. If you want to see results, you’re going to have to bring out the big guns and be diligent with your skin care routine. Look for ingredients like alpha hydroxy acids, which will gently exfoliate to reveal fresher, smoother skin. For a super effective lightening treatment try products that contain hydroquinone or vitamin C, which will both effectively target dark spots and fade them in no time. And as we’ve said before, sunscreen is an absolute must. Look for something with a light texture that will hold up as we get closer to the summer.

Finally, here are some of our favorite lightening products.

Obagi Nu Derm Foaming Gel: This cleanser is a personal favorite. It gently foams up to remove all traces of makeup and grime, ensuring your skin is perfectly prepped for your treatment products.

Clinician’s Complex Skin Bleaching Cleanser: Chock full of safe and effective lightening ingredients like hydroquinone and kojic acid, this cleanser will not only lighten dark spots, it will also prevent future ones from forming in the first place.

Lexli Day Moisturizer with SPF 30: This moisturizer is light, non-greasy and contains hydroxy acids as well as extra vitamins and minerals to give your skin an extra boost. It can even be applied under makeup, making it perfect for everyday use
